GRIEVING PADA ANAK YANG KEHILANGAN ORANGTUA AKIBAT BENCANA GEMPA BUMI DI KECAMATAN CUGENANG KABUPATEN CIANJUR

Abstract

e to the earthquake in Cugenang District, Cianjur Regency. This

research was conducted 5 months after the earthquake disaster during the

transition from emergency to disaster recovery which showed that children still

experienced high levels of grieving. This research aims to get an empirical

description of: 1) the characteristics of the respondents, 2) to accept the reality

of the loss, 3) to process the pain and sadness, 4) to adapt to the new

environment, and 5) to maintain a relationship with the deceased while still

living life. The method used in this research is quantitative research with

descriptive methods. The population in this research were children who lost

their parents due to the earthquake in Cugenang District, Cianjur Regency with

a total sample of 30 respondents. The sampling technique used in this research

was purposive sampling or with certain considerations and criteria for children

who lost their parents due to the earthquake. The data collection techniques

used were: 1) questionnaire, 2) observation, and 3) documentation study. The

research instrument uses a rating scale. The validity test used was a face

validity test and a reliability test using Cronbach's Alpha with a result of 0.814

or a high reliability value. The results showed that the grieving rate of children

who lost their parents due to the earthquake in Cugenang District, Cianjur

Regency was high with an actual score of 2,286 from the ideal score for the high

interval class, namely 2,201 – 3,000. The results of the research show that

children still do not realize, understand, and accept themselves as they are; not

yet fully able to overcome pain, both physical and mental; find it difficult to

interact and provide awareness of himself; and maintaining closeness with

parents excessively. Therefore, a "Grieving Recovery Program Through
